LOGO REDESIGN five examples

The first project is to take a current logo and improve the design and concept. The first step in this process is to find examples of poor logo design and poor representation of the brand. After looking through tons of logos on products, in magazines and online, I chose the following logos:

The Nabisco logo is very recognizable, but is not very versatile because of the red triangle that looks like it must fit into a corner. The circle around the brand and the lines coming out of the circle look more like antennas, something futuristic or just lines to fill up the corner of the triangle (all of which do not communicate food, snacks or reliability that the brand stands for).
The next logo I chose the Ulta Beauty logo. First of all, the swoosh does not communicate "beauty" it is more representative of established and serious businesses. Second, the thick and thin strokes on the typeface make the logo look messy and the lack of alignment of the word "beauty" also adds to the unstructured and less modern appeal.
I think the Best Buy logo does not represent the brand image that is more contemporary, cutting edge and technologically advanced. The ultra bold black type on the bright yellow background makes it appear older, 80s! The alignment of the type creates awkward shapes and gets a little close to the edges in some areas.
Macy's logo is strong in some ways, the lightweight type is contemporary which relates to the trendy designer and private brands that Macy's is known for. The star, however, does not speak sophistication or quality apparel and brands. In addition, Walmart also had a star in their logo, and I don't think Macy's is going for the same image as Walmart! Here it is! The Walmart logo, well the old one. They have a new logo, but up until now this is what Walmart was known for, the bold, caps type and the star in the dark blue. Power hungry!
